Scottish Premier League: St Mirren move top

St Mirren moved to the top of the Scottish Premier League with a dominant 2-0 victory away to Dundee.

Kenny McLean opened the scoring with a wonderful long range effort that found the top right-hand corner on 38 minutes. That capped off a spell of good play for St Mirren and they continued their dominance in the second half.

On 63 minutes Sam Parkin doubled the visitors’ lead when he scored from inside the area as he converted an assist from Dougie Imrie.

It was a strong performance from the away team as they failed to allow their hosts a shot on target and edged possession.

Elsewhere Motherwell and St Johnstone couldn’t be separated as they played out a 1-1 draw.

St Johnstone took the lead on 58 minutes through Murray Davidson, just minutes after David MacKay had missed a penalty. Stevie Hammell brought down Chris Millar and was handed his marching orders by the referee for a professional foul.

But 12 minutes before time the short-handed home side salvaged a point when substitute Robert McHugh equalised with a finish from inside the area.

St Johnstone’s poor end to the match was compounded when Rowan Vine was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Kilmarnock, too, played out a 1-1 draw. The home side took the lead within the first 10 minutes through Andrew Shinnie but were pegged back on the stroke of half-time when Manuel Pascali headed home from a Michael Nelson assist.

Owain Tudur was sent off 10 minutes before full-time as Inverness held on for a nervy point.

Over at Pittodrie, Aberdeen and Ross County played out a scoreless draw.

The home side dominated proceedings but a combination of poor finishing and good goalkeeping from Ross County goalkeeper, Michael Fraser, denied Aberdeen their first win of the season.

In Sunday's Edinburgh derby, Hearts extended their unbeaten run against Hibernian to 12 matches after earning a point from a 1-1 draw at Easter Road.

Andy Driver capitalised on an error from defender Alan Maybury to give Hearts the lead after 29 minutes, before a close range finish from Leigh Griffiths brought the scores level shortly before half-time.
